Treat hose and couplings as an engineered assembly. Do not mix components unless the manufacturer has qualified that exact combination and provided the correct assembly process.

Collect the application details

A useful selection checklist is:

  • Size: required inside diameter and allowable pressure drop.
  • Temperature: fluid and ambient, including peaks.
  • Application: movement, flexing, vibration, bend radius and routing.
  • Material or media: hydraulic fluid and any external chemical exposure.
  • Pressure: maximum working pressure, surges and impulse duty.
  • Ends: thread, sealing face, orientation and material.
  • Delivery: length, cleanliness, protection and test requirements.

Routing matters

Allow the hose to flex in its intended plane. Avoid twisting, excessive tension, abrasion, heat sources and a bend tighter than the specified minimum radius. Use suitable clamps and guards without preventing necessary movement.

Replacement

Replace an assembly showing reinforcement exposure, blistering, hardening, cracking, crushed sections, coupling movement, severe corrosion or leakage. Investigate the cause so the replacement does not fail in the same way.

The hose layline and old fitting are useful clues, but confirm the full specification and current machine requirements before ordering.
